President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged local government units (LGUs) in regions forecasted to be hit by Super Typhoon "Leon" to make necessary preparations for its possible impact.
“Mukhang may padating na naman. Kaya’t paghandaan natin nang mabuti,” Marcos said during the opening of the Maersk Optimus distribution center in Calamba City, Laguna on Wednesday.
Marcos reiterated that preparations should be made for the impact of Leon as relief efforts continue for those affected by the recent Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.
Various government agencies promptly responded to this directive to monitor the situation in different areas that may be affected by the storm.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), led by National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, conducted a briefing on the government's measures to address the potential impact of Tropical Cyclone Leon.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is also prepared to deploy units for rescue and relief operations.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) already begun monitoring the ports in areas where storm signals have been raised.
According to AFP Spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla, the entire armed forces of the country is prepared to face the new threat posed by the storm while recovery efforts continue for those affected by the recent tropical cyclone.
