President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. allocated P80 million in assistance to the local government units (LGUs) of Naga City and Albay to help them recover from the extensive flooding brought by Super Tropical Storm Kristine.
President Marcos extended P50 million in aid to Acting Albay Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao and P30 million to Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion during a situation briefing held in Naga City on Saturday, with funding sourced from the Office of the President (OP).
Meanwhile, Secretary Rex Gatchalian of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced that the agency is actively engaged in ongoing relief efforts in Naga City, noting the delivery of 35,000 food packs to the area.
“So, today we’re delivering 8,000, mamayang gabi another four, so 12. And then, we’ll be finished with another – one to two days tapos na ho ‘yung buong 35 [thousand],” Gatchalian said during the briefing.
He further stated that the food packs will be sourced from the DSWD’s regional warehouses, and the agency is coordinating with the city for additional support as more supplies arrive from Manila and Cebu.
Acting Albay Governor Bongao reported that more than 92,000 families in her province have been affected by Super Tropical Storm Kristine and are in urgent need of additional food aid.
Naga Mayor Legacion stated that the DSWD has committed to providing around 35,000 food packs, which are expected to arrive soon.
To date, the city government already distributed approximately 3,000 of the said packs.
