The water level in the Marikina River returned to normal on Saturday morning, September 2, after it declared its first alarm before dawn.

According to the Marikina City Public Information Office (PIO), the river is currently in its normal state with 14.6 meters of water level at 6 a.m.

The city's PIO also said "all gates are open."

At 2 a.m. on Saturday, the river was raised to the first alarm with 15.1-meter water level.

Residents were advised to "prepare" when the first alarm was raised and the water rises 15 meters above sea level.

Meanwhile, the second alarm was hoisted when the water reaches 16 meters, and this means residents should "evacuate".

The third alarm is declared when the water reaches 18 meters, and this calls for "forced evacuation."

The rise of the Marikina River's water level was due to continued rains brought by previous typhoons Goring, Hanna, and two other tropical cyclones that are outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

According to PAGASA, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is being enhanced on Saturday and will bring occasional monsoon rains over the western portion of Luzon in the next three days.
