The Department of Health (DOH) sees the possibility of placing Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 if the COVID-19 cases continue to increase.

The National Capital Regions (NCR) is currently under Alert Level 1 — the lowest level classification — until June 15.

"The possibility would always be there ‘pag nag tuloy-tuloy po ang mga kaso , and if our hospital admissions will increase, if that happens, we will shift and escalate to Alert Level 2," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a radio interview.

On Sunday, the DOH reported 308 new cases, the highest daily count since April 20. It has also been four days straight that the number of new COVID-19 cases daily was above 250.

According to Vergeire, 14 out of 17 areas in Metro Manila showed an increase in cases.

"Ang kailangan po maintindihan ng ating mga kababayan, we are learning to live with the virus. Alam po natin hindi aalis ang virus na ito. It will stay with us," she said.

"Ang pinakaimportante, hindi pa natin nakikitang tumataas ang severe and critical na mga kaso at hindi pa din nagkakaroon ng problema sa ating mga ospital by observing kung meron man increase of admission," she added.

[Our kababayans must understand that we are learning to live with the virus. The virus won't go away, it will stay with us so these mild and asymptomatic cases, it should be acceptable to the population.]
