MIAA: No flight delays, cancellations during maintenance operation
by Mary Antalan30 November 2023

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced that no flights were disrupted during the electrical upgrade works at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

In a press release, the MIAA said it successfully completed a planned electrical maintenance and upgrading operation at the airport, which kicked off at 12:01 a.m. until 3:00 a.m.

The MIAA said that the maintenance operation did not cause any flight delays or cancellations.

"During the three-hour maintenance period, generator sets were employed to ensure uninterrupted and dependable power supply to critical systems, thereby averting any possible impact on the airport's operational efficiency. The maintenance operation did not cause any flight delays or cancellations," the agency said.

Meanwhile, MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co xpressed his delight with the well-organized completion of the repair activities.

"We find it heartening that our mission to improve and upgrade Terminal 3’s electrical systems is being carried out in a calculated and well-organized manner, without any disruptions to flight schedules," he said.

The successful operation involved the necessary upgrade of main unit cables connecting the Meralco and the MIAA main substations.

Vacuum circuit breakers and protection relays at the main substation, which are essential components of NAIA Terminal 3's extensive electrical infrastructure, was replaced.

"This level of partnership with Meralco and various stakeholders is what we need and can anticipate as we proceed with the phased power-related maintenance works until December 13," Co remarked.
