Senator Risa Hontiveros said on Monday that Michael Yang's connection to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) has become clearer following the arrest of his brother.
Michael Yang served as a former presidential adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte during his administration.
"The arrest of Michael Yang’s older brother, Tony Yang, further exposes the Yang family’s deep links to POGOs and Chinese criminal syndicates," said Hontiveros in a Facebook post on Monday.
In a separate post, Hontiveros also mentioned that Tony Yang is wanted in China for involvement in financial scams.
On September 20, Tony Yang was arrested at NAIA Terminal 3 by the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for being classified as an "undesirable alien."
Tony Yang owns Philippine Sanjia Steel Corp. and is accused of falsifying documents and failing to remit employee benefits.
Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez disclosed that Tony Yang is a Chinese national posing as a Filipino and is involved in POGO operations and alleged drug smuggling activities.
