A man who represented himself as a Secretary in the Office of the President (OP) was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - Special Task Force (STF) on August 16 when he applied for a special plate at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
On August 15, the STF received information from the OP that a certain man was applying for a special plate at LTO-NCR disguised as a Secretary under the mentioned office. The man presented a business card with his title and position under OP, Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects.
The LTO-NCR verified the information that same day and planned for the entrapment operation. The following day, operatives proceeded to the supposed transaction and application of the special plate application.
Upon confirmation, operatives identified, Juanito Tan De Veyra, knowingly and falsely representing himself as a Secretary in the OP. He was arrested for violation of Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code or the Usurpation of Authority.
Moreover, the OP Management Staff Certification disclosed that the suspect is not affiliated with the office, as he was not appointed to the position. They added that the Presidential Committee on Flagship Programs & Projects office does not exist as of date.
The arrestee was presented before the Office of the Inquest Prosecutor, the Department of Justice (DOJ), Quezon City for the inquest proceedings.
