The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a Thai national for the illegal practice of medicine at a wellness and beauty center in Manila.
NBI Director Judge Jaime Santiago shared that a confidential informant reported the crime. Upon receiving the tip, the NBI's Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD) promptly conducted a surveillance operation.
They confirmed that the center offered and charged customers for medical procedures such as nose lifts, Botox, and mesolipo injections. An entrapment operation was organized, with an NBI poseur-client securing an appointment at the center for Botox procedures valued at Php 10,000.
During the entrapment operation on August 20, the NBI-OTCD confirmed the identity of the Thai national as she was about to perform the Botox procedure. Following the suspect’s arrest, operatives recovered medical paraphernalia intended for the procedure.
Upon verification, it was determined that the suspect does not hold a license to practice medicine in the Philippines.
She was presented for inquest proceedings for violating the Medical Act of 1959.
