It is likely that the tropical cyclones following Super Typhoon Pepito next month will make landfall, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)
In a press briefing, PAGASA (PAGASA) Weather Division Chief Juanito Galang said the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as “Amihan,” will push tropical cyclones developed in the Pacific Ocean region into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). With La Niña, there is a higher chance these cyclones will fall onto landmass.
“Kapag ang prevailing wind natin, nagsimula na yung Northeast, which is malapit nang mag-onset, talagang halos itutulak niyang pababa lahat ng tropical cyclone na mabubuo dito sa Pacific Ocean,” Galang explained. “Kaya, expect natin, mas maraming landfalling na bagyo towards the end of the year.”
(When the Northeast wind begins, which is close at hand, it will really push all the tropical cyclones formed in the Pacific Ocean downward. That’s why we should expect more cyclones to make landfall towards the end of the year.)
For the rest of the month, PAGASA forecasts clear weather, as there has been no threat of tropical cyclones sighted. Come December, however, Filipinos must brace themselves for one to two more tropical cyclones before the year ends.
