Groups commemorate Ninoy Aquino's 40th death anniversary

Several groups respectively held commemoration ceremony for the 40th death anniversary of former Senator and former Tarlac governor Benigno Simeon 'Ninoy' Aquino Jr. on Monday, August 21.

The group 1Sambayan led the wreath-laying ceremony in Aquino's marker in Plaza Miranda in Manila.

Aquino's grandson Francis 'Kiko' Aquino-Dee witnessed the ceremony.

The local government unit (LGU) of Manila, National Historical Commission of the Philippines, and the Samahan sa tuwid na daan laban sa Katiwalian Inc. also observed the 40th death anniversary of Aquino in Burgos Ave., Roxas Blvd., Manila.

A commemoration ceremony was likewise held at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), originally known as Manila International Airport, where the former Senator was brazenly assassinated in 1983.

Aquino's supporters, clad in yellow shirts and yellow wrist bands, attended and offered flowers in his granite marker located at NAIA Terminal 1's Departure Curve.

Kiko Aquino-Dee was also present in the event.

In an interview with the media, Aquino's grandson underscored the importance of sites such as NAIA and EDSA that symbolizes the nation's history.

“Ang iniisip ko lang na sobrang mahalaga na alagan natin ang simbolo ng kasaysayan. 'Yung Ninoy Aquino airport, 'yung EDSA, 'yung lahat ng mga bagay na sumisimbolo sa laban ni Ninoy at laban natin para sa demokrasya," he said.

Dee extended his gratitude to the people who commemorate the death of his grandfather.

"Tuloy ang laban natin at laban ni Ninoy para sa demokrasya," he underlined.

Members of Project Gunita, the August Twenty-One Movement (ATOM), and different organizations visited the tomb of Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City.

A motorcade was conducted from Baclaran Church in Parañaque to Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.

A mass was then held at the Sto. Domingo Church presided over by Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan Socrates Villegas DD.
