Every August 21 of the year, the country commemorates the life and legacy of late former Senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino Jr. who was brazenly assassinated in 1983.

Not only was he a fighter for democracy and justice, but Aquino was also a notable political opposition figure.

During his time, he openly criticized and challenged the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Aquino was also hailed as one of the most outstanding Senators in the country’s history.

As we celebrate his 40th death anniversary on Monday, DZRH News Online compiled a list of activities dedicated to the former Senator who left the inspirational words, “The Filipino is worth dying for”.

PEOPLE’S COMMEMORATION

A People's Commemoration will be graced on Monday, with two scheduled activities.

According to renowned historian Michael Charleston 'Xiao' Chua, the August Twenty One Movement (ATOM) will lead a motorcade.

The motorcade will mirror the burial march of Ninoy Aquino, as this will start from the Baclaran Church in Parañaque to the Sto. Domingo Church in Quezon City.

Motorists who will be joining the event are encouraged to tie yellow ribbons on their vehicles.

A mass will be held at the Sto. Domingo Church to be presided over by Archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan Socrates Villegas DD.

Attendees are urged to wear yellow colored shirts. But those who can't wear yellow, can wear black or white as an alternative.

REMEMBERING NINOY & THE CALL FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

The Ateneo de Manila Martial Law Museum, the Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation joined forces in creating a special radio episode for the 40th commemoration of Ninoy Aquino’s Martyrdom.

The episode titled “Remembering Ninoy & the Call for the next generation” features historian Xiao Chua and two esteemed political scientists Prof. Arjan Aguirre and Prof. Francis ‘Kiko’ Aquino Dee.

This will be aired at the Radyo Katipunan show’s "Baka Naman Puwede" on Thursday, August 24, from 2 PM to 3 PM.

Audiences can watch the episode live through the official Facebook pages of Ateneo IPC and Radyo Katipunan.
