The National Privacy Commission (NPC) received a bomb scare on Friday morning, May 12, which prompted its employees and personnel to evacuate the building.

In a statement, NPC Commissioner John Henry Naga said one netizen made the bomb threat in the comment section of one of NPC posts on the social media platform Facebook.

In the said Facebook comment, a netizen said “Time bomb set on your building starts now”.

“I want to assure the public that we are taking this bomb threat very seriously, and we have implemented all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of our premises and personnel,” Naga said.

He said the emergency response procedures were immediately activated upon learning about the bomb threat, and the NPC’s security office located at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) was notified.

The agency will be working closely with authorities to look into the origin of the bomb threat.

“I want to emphasize that the National Privacy Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the privacy rights of every Filipino citizen. Our work is vital in fostering trust in the digital landscape, and we will not be deterred by any acts of intimidation or threats,” Naga stressed.
