The National Privacy Commission (NPC) confirmed on Thursday, June 6, that Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), a major real estate company, and Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), a subsidiary of the Japanese automotive manufacturer, were both affected by a data breach.
NPC said that Robinsons reported the data breach on June 1, and Toyota on May 14. The NPC is presently investigating these hacks. Their Compliance and Monitoring Division Chief Atty. Rainier Milanes assured they are monitoring the situation.
An online group which releases data leaks known as Deep Web Konek posted about the breach on June 4. They alleged more than a terabyte of information from 2016 through 2024 was exposed in the Toyota leak. This includes private customer details such as full names, addresses, along with sensitive files like bank documents, IDs, etc.
Milanes also requested that all individuals whose personal information has possibly been compromised come to them.
NPC has also declared they would investigate the data breach on S&R, although the membership shopping club said no evidence of such had turned up when they conducted their own investigation.
