National Telecommunications Commission

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has directed public telecommunications entities (PTEs) DITO Telecommunity Corporation, Globe Telecoms, Inc., and Smart Communications, Inc. to continue the text blast to subscribers from 05 October-11 October 2022.

In a Memorandum dated 04 October 2022, the NTC also directed the PTEs "to continue the process of blocking SIM cards that are being used to perpetrate these fraudulent activities and to further expand the messaging reach of your respective public information campaigns to the public regarding these new variants of text scams."

In another Memorandum on the same date, the commission ordered all NTC Regional Directors and Officers-in-Charge to appear before different local radio and television stations within their respective jurisdictions at least ten (10) times to warn and educate the public on how to properly report these text scams to NTC.

In September, the NTC launched its NTC Kontra Text Scam campaign releasing instructions for the public to follow to avoid being victimized by text scam fraudsters.

The campaign informed the public of the process to identify and report text scams in four easy steps via email at [email protected] or at the NTC website https://ntc.gov.ph.
