In light of the recent impact of Tropical Storm Kristine across various regions in the Philippines, the Department of Tourism (DOT) underscores the readiness of the Tourist Assistance Call Center (TACC) to address the needs and concerns of tourists affected by the severe weather. As part of the DOT’s commitment to the safety and well-being of both local and international travelers, the TACC remains operational 24/7, providing vital information, guidance, and support across multiple accessible platforms. In addition to managing inquiries, the DOT is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with regional offices, local government units, and relevant national agencies. The DOT encourages tourists to reach out to TACC with any concerns and to stay informed by following official weather updates and local advisories. (Caption and photo courtesy of DOT)

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported a decline in the number of stranded tourists in Batanes from 140 down to 103, due to Tropical Storm Kristine.

In a statement posted on social media, DOT Region 2 Office confirmed that a total of 37 passengers were accommodated in two flights on Sunday (Oct. 27).

“The stranded individuals are all in Basco and are eventually expected to fly out of the island as soon as airline seats are able to accommodate all of them. All other stranded tourists from previously reported areas all over the country were able to travel onwards to their respective destinations,” DOT stated.

“With Tropical Storm Kristine leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), resumption of all regular transportation and travel schedules are already expected in the entire country,” DOT added.

Parts of the country suffered sever flooding and landslides last week due to torrential rain showers and strong winds brought by Tropical Storm Kristine, particularly in CALABARZON and Bicol region.

Such areas still remain unpassable to vehicles, making rescue and delivery of humanitarian aid a challenge.
