National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) are gearing up for the anticipated super typhoon expected to hit the country this week.

PAGASA is closely monitoring Super Typhoon Mawar, which is projected to enter the country over the weekend and will be named Typhoon Betty.

Diego Mariano, head of the Joint Information Center of OCD, stated that they have already alerted the local governments along the eastern seaboard, which may be affected by the powerful typhoon.

Rescue teams are on standby and alert, ready to evacuate residents and provide assistance in case of injuries or casualties due to heavy rains, flooding, or landslides.

Government agencies have also prepared relief goods for those who may be affected by the super typhoon

Furthermore, Mariano mentioned that pre-disaster risk assessments are underway to identify the areas that will be directly hit by the typhoon and to implement the necessary alerts and protocols.

In addition to NDRRMC and OCD, the Philippine Coast Guard and the Department of Social Welfare and Development have also made preparations, particularly in the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, in response to the impending strong typhoon.

Tropical Cyclone Mawar, which is expected to be a supertyphoon, is last reported at 2,215km East of Visayas.
