While the Philippines still reels from the effects of Tropical Storm Enteng, the state-run weather monitoring agency of the country warns the public of two more tropical cyclones in the upcoming days.

PAGASA Deputy Administrator for Research and Development Marcelino Villafuerte II said on Wednesday, September 3, that a tropical cyclone could develop at the northeastern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the week.

Villafuerte also mentioned that another tropical cyclone could enter PAR by next week.

"May inaasahan tayo within this week pa rin, may possible na mabuong tropical cyclone or tropical cyclone-like vortex dito," Villafuerte II said during a situation briefing presided by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

"And then may isa pang kasunod dito sa labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility within this period," Villafuerte added.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. laments that these upcoming weather disturbances will affect the recovery efforts in places affected by the severe rains brought by TS Enteng.

"The storm is now going to come in, magwi-withdraw na naman tayo, we will just wait for the storm to pass before we can go in again," President Marcos said.

"We will have to look very, very closely at (PAGASA's) forecasting, ‘yung meteorologist — meteorology assessment is the one that will guide our response," he added.

The Chief Executive stressed the important role of PAGASA in guiding the preparations and response of the country for these severe weather events.

"I know that it’s becoming more and more difficult. Again, I’ve mentioned this before. But one phenomenon that we’ve noticed with climate change is how the weather systems developed much more quickly than they used to," President Marcos remarked.

President Marcos told PAGASA to employ the best technologies, and get in touch with foreign weather monitoring stations in order to provide quicker updates.

"Lahat naman ‘yan nagbibigay sa atin ng information. You’re doing it already. I know that you are doing it already so let’s just keep that going so that we can do our best," the President pointed out.

Villafuerte said that the Philippines will experience two to three tropical cyclones this September and October, while November and December will have at least one.
