Heat index may soar to 40°C and above in various parts of the Philippines on Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned.
The heat index is the apparent temperature felt by people in an area, computed based on air temperature and humidity.
PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja emphasized that the heat indices in some areas may possibly surpass 40 degrees Celsius, specifically in the provinces of Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, and Ilocos.
Even in Metro Manila, residents can expect to feel around 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, while Palawan and Albay may experience a heat index of more than 40 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, other cities in Mindanao like Davao City, Butuan City, Cotabato City, and General Santos City could feel a heat index of above 40 degrees Celsius.
However, Metro Manila and other parts of the country may experience isolated rain and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone.
Moreover, the state weather bureau has also advised the public to take necessary precautions during this period of extreme heat, such as avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and wearing light and comfortable clothing.
