The Malacañang Palace declared Sept. 12 as a special non-working holiday in Ilocos Norte to commemorate the 105th birthday of late former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

This was announced by Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph Marcos Manotoc, the son of Senator Imee Marcos and grandson of Marcos Sr., in a Facebook post on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Manotoc shared a copy of Proclamation No. 53 dated Sept. 7, signed by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez and certified by Director Concepcion Zeny E. Ferrolino Enad.

Proclamation no. 53 granted the request of the Office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to make Sept. 12, Monday, be declared a holiday instead of Sept. 11 which falls on a Sunday.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the Province of Ilocos Norte be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies, subject to the public health measures of the national government,” the order reads.

In 2017, former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Proclamation 310 to declare Sept. 11 as a special non-working day in Ilocos Norte to annually celebrate Marcos Sr.’s birthday and commemorate his life and contribution as a former president.

Marcos Sr. was born on Sept. 11, 1917.
