by John Dexter Tilo10 December 2021

Malacañang on Thursday said it will study the ruling of the Supreme Court (SC) on the Anti-Terror Law, but refrained from commenting on the matter just yet until they receive a copy of the decision.

Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said that the Palace has yet to secure a copy of the SC's decision on the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, also known as the Republic Act No. 11479.

"Upon the receipt of the decision, the Office of the Executive Secretary will study the ruling and, in consultation with the Office of Solicitor General, thereafter consider the next course of action," Nograles said in a statement.

The acting spokesperson said that the Anti-Terrorism Act is the government's way to address terrorism in the country.

"We reiterate that Republic Act Number 11479 underscores our commitment to seriously address terrorism and to uphold the rule of law," he said.

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the controversial Anti-Terrorism Law save for two parts which it deemed "unconstitutional."

The High Tribunal struck down the Section 4 and a paragraph of Section 25, while the other provisions petitioned by various groups were not deemed unconstitutional.
