Pasig City passes ordinance banning online gambling

The Pasig City government has passed an ordinance disallowing the operations of online gambling as well as the Philippine Offshore Gaming Corporations (POGOs), its Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Tuesday.

In a Twitter post, Sotto said the majority of the councilors voted in favor of Ordinance 55, series of 2022.

Under the said ordinance, it will disallow the operations and applications to operate the following: online casinos, e-game, e-sabong (online sabong), e-bingo outlets, online power, computer gaming, and POGO.

It stated that those gambling establishments in Pasig that had been granted permits to operate are allowed to renew during the renewal period in January 2023. But they will be given until December 2023 to wind up their operations.

The order also stated that any person, natural, or juridical who will violate the directives shall be punished with a fine of Php 5,000 or imprisonment for 1 year.

The order took effect last Dec. 15, 2022.
