President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has issued an order extending the terms of all designated officers in charge (OICs) of the government agencies.

Under Memorandum No. 12 dated and released on Dec. 29, it directs OICs of departments, bureaus, and offices to remain in service until a replacement has been appointed or designated, or unless otherwise they are earlier terminated.

The order also directs the career executive service (CES) eligibles occupying CES positions, including on-steam candidates for CES to “continue to perform their duties and discharge their function pursuant to law, rules, and regulations, unless they are reappointed or replaced or their respective successors are appointed or designated.”

According to the issuance, the extension is to “ensure continuity in government operations, while promoting competence, merit, and fitness in the selection and appointment of government officers and personnel” in the executive branch.

The memorandum was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
