The number of jobless Filipinos continues to decline while more Pinoys are getting employed, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. said on Thursday.
Marcos made the remark after the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the unemployment rate swelled further in January 2023.
"Padami nang padami ang nagkakaroon ng magandang trabaho! Bumaba pa lalo ang ating unemployment at underemployment rate at tumaas naman sa 95.2% ang ating employment rate mula sa 93.6% noong Enero 2022," he said in a Twitter post.
Marcos said about 4.1 million Filipinos were added to the labor force since January 2022.
He then vowed that the government would continue to exhaust efforts to combat poverty.
The latest data from PSA showed that the number of jobless Pinoys jumped to 4.8 percent in January 2023 from 4.3 percent jobless Filipino in December 2022.
According to National Statistician Dennis Mapa, the top sector that recorded a decline in the number of employed individuals is construction (-334,000), water supply; sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities (-34,000); and professional, scientific, and technical activities (-19,000).
