The Philippines has continued to dominate in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia, adding three more gold medals to their tally on Tuesday, May 9.

The country's women's team soft tennis players, composed of Noelle Zoleta, Noelle Mañalac, Christy Sañosa, Princess Catindig, Virvienica Bejosano, and Fatima Amirul, secured the 25th gold medal for the Philippines.

The team dominated their Indonesian opponents in the finals with a 3-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Thailand and Cambodia's teams had to settle for bronze medals.

This win was preceded by Mañalac and Catindig's victory in the soft tennis duo event, where they brought home the country's 12th medal.

Teia Salvino, a 17-year-old Filipino-American, made a splash in her first-ever Southeast Asian Games appearance by breaking the tournament and national records in the women's 100-meter backstroke.

She clocked in at 1:01.64, two seconds ahead of the runner-up, Singapore's Faith Elizabeth Koo, who managed to edge out Indonesia's Angel Gabriella Yus for the silver medal.

Finally, Janry Ubas, a long-jump veteran, ended his long wait for a gold medal in the SEA Games.

Ubas had represented the Philippines in the SEA Games since 2015, but only managed to clinch bronze in 2017 and silver in 2019 and 2021.

He finally struck gold with a leap of 7.85m, ending his streak of heartbreak in the event.

With these latest victories, the Philippines’ gold medal count now stands at 25, solidifying their spot in the top ranks of the medal table.

The nation’s athletes are expected to continue their impressive performance as the SEA Games continue until May 16.
