The Department of Finance (DOF) assured that political issues are not hindering the performance and growth of the Philippine economy.
“Actually, matagal nang mukhang hindi masyadong naaapektuhan. Nadi-differentiate ng mga investors iyong economic versus iyong political,” Finance Undersecretary Domini Velasquez said during a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.
Velasquez highlighted the recent credit rating upgrade awarded to the country by Japan’s largest credit rating agency this week. The upgrade affirmed the country’s expanding and strengthening economy.
“Siguro makukumpara mo sa Thailand. ‘Di ba iyong Thailand nagkaroon sila na medyo issue din na political tapos bumaba iyong ekonomiya nila. In the Philippines, hindi iyon nangyayari," said Velasquez.
The Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I) has upgraded the Philippines’ credit rating to “A-” with a stable outlook, up from “BBB+” last year.
