The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. advises members of Filipino communities staying in areas along the path of Hurricane Idalia to closely monitor the movement of the storm and heed warnings of local officials.
In a public advisory posted by the Embassy, it reminds Filipinos in the U.S., particularly those in areas situated near or at the path of the storm to be vigilant and make preparations as Hurricane Idalia is gaining strength and is now a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph.
According to reports, Hurricane Idalia is forecasted to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday (Thursday in the Philippines) and weather officials are warning it could turn into a Category 3 storm.
“The Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in these areas,” the statement said.
The statement added that updates and advisories are also available on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website: https://www.fema.gov/ on how to prepare for Hurricane Idalia.
