The Philippine National Police (PNP) has sought the help of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to locate former Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo 'Arnie' Teves Jr. and serve the warrant of arrest against him, PNP Public Information Office (PIO) Chief PCol. Jean Fajardo said on Wednesday.
"As of now, ang inyong pambansang pulisya ay closely coordinating po sa International Police or Interpol," she told reporters in an interview, adding that they are also communicating with the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Teves is facing murder, frustrated murder, and attempted murder charges in relation to the killing of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo.
Last Tuesday, Sept. 5, the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 51 issued an e-warrant of arrest against Teves after the court found "probable cause" against him.
Fajardo mentioned that the absence of an extradition treaty challenges them to locate the embattled former lawmaker.
"Gumagawa tayo ng pamamaraan para ma-monitor ang kanyang wherabout at exhausting at ine-exhaust din natin ang ibang legal remedies to enforce," she added.
Meanwhile, the PNP PIO Chief said a tracker team was formed to find other accused in the slaying case of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo.
Aside from Teves, the court also ordered the arrest of Angelo Palagtiw "Angelou" Valiente; One alias, sister of Angelo Palagtiw; Capt. Lloyd Cruz Garcia II; and Nigel Electona, also known as "Najel", and "Naijel".
The said team was created through the PNP's coordination with the directors of Police Regional 7 and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
