As part of the campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to clean their ranks against illegal drugs, a "surprise drug test" was launched for senior officers and members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
The unexpected drug test took place on Thursday, August 24, at the command conference which was attended by NCRPO officers.
Police regional staff, five district directors of Metro Manila, chiefs of police, and station commander undergone the surprise drug test.
NCRPO chief PBrig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., who led the drug testing, said this is part of PNP Chief PGen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.'s 5-Focused Agenda to increase the integrity of the police and avoid being involved in any corruption.
He admitted that with the successive involvement of the police in various controversies, it is necessary to rebuild the image of the PNP by cleaning their ranks.
Nartatez assured that he would not tolerate any police officer involved in corruption or crime.
"I will not tolerate scalawags in NCRPO, especially those who are involved in illegal drug activities. sinisiguro kong may kalalagyan kayo. Patuloy ang NCRPO sa paglilinis sa aming hanay para sa tapat at marangal na serbisyong publiko," he said..
Meanwhile, during the command conference, the NCRPO chief said that they would focus on the eight main index crimes in Metro Manila, which include the campaign against illegal drugs, loose firearms, and terrorism.
