The Philippine National Police (PNP) does not rule out the possibility that an influential individual may be backing the recently raided scam hub in Ermita, Manila.
"Hindi po malayo na mayroong nagkakanlong o mayroong maimpluwensyadong tao behind this, considering kung totoo man ‘yung sinasabing dalawang beses na itong na-raid and yet no cases were filed," PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing on Monday.
Fajardo further stated that Vertex Technology, linked to a cryptocurrency scam, faced two raids before rebranding itself as Quantum Solutions.
According to Fajardo, the Anti-Cybercrime Group is still conducting a digital forensic examination of the gadgets confiscated at the site.
If sufficient evidence is obtained, the PNP is prepared to file appropriate cases against Vertex Technology or even Quantum Solutions.
"Well we don't want to say categorically na may implunawensya sila but some may think na mayroon impluwensya considering nga na how come twice na nga na-raid po ito pero they continued their operations so that will be part of the investigation na gagawin po ng ACG," said Fajardo.
"And if ever na mayroon tayong ma-establish na mayroon influential person or people behind the alleged illegal operation nitong Vortex or Quantum then corresponding criminal cases will be filed against them," she added.
The National Capital Region Police Office previously stated that the building is owned by a Chinese national, describing it as "untouchable" due to connections with government agencies.
