138 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) contacted the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
The PNP Health Service announced on Sunday, August 8, that the total number of COVID-19 infections within the police force climbed up to 31,364, and, out of the said number, 1,579 personnel remain active cases.
PNP also logged 56 new COVID-19 recoveries, which pushed the total number of recovered personnel up to 29,699 and translates to a recovery rate of 94.6 percent within the police force.
However, the PNP recorded its 86th COVID-19 fatality, a 48-year old police corporal assigned in Eastern Metro Manila.
"According to the report submitted by the Health Service, the patient was admitted at a local hospital after experiencing Covid-19 symptoms on July 23," PNP Chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.
Eleazar said that the police personnel tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to an intensive care unit on July 30 due to his unstable and criticial condition.
The PNP was intubated and hooked to a mechanical failure a day before he passed away on Monday, August 2, due to lung failure secondary to COVID-19.
"Nakausap na natin ang hepe ng naturang pulis at ipinagbilin na tulungan ang kaniyang pamilya sa anumang kanilang pangangailangan," Eleazar said.
Meanwhile, a total of 61,253 or 27.65 of PNP personnel are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 while 56,808 personnel have already received their first dose.
