The Philippine National Police (PNP) welcomes the possible Senate investigation on the alleged "massive cover-up" of high-ranking PNP officials and officers in the ₱6.7 billion drug case in Manila last year, PNP Public Information Chief Red Maranan said on Wednesday.

The statement comes after Senator Ramon 'Bong' Revilla Jr. filed a resolution urging a Senate committee to conduct a probe in aid of legislation on the drug case. He cited the "massive attempt" of Police Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos Jr. and 10 others to cover up the 990 kilograms of seized shabu that led to the arrest of fellow police officer Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr.

"Handa ang ating pambansang polisya, sa lahat ng klaseng imbestigasyon na gagawin sapagkat ito po ay isang magandang pagkakataon para makita natin ang mga circumstances at malinawan ang lahat ng mga isyu pagdating dito sa kaso ng 990 kilos," Maranan told reporters in an interview.

Maranan said PNP Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. will soon issue a statement in regard to the alleged "massive cover-up" at the right time.

He added that Azurin is just waiting for the full report of the PNP - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) and the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
