An operation on Saturday morning killed the suspect in the ambush-slaying of the police chief of Ampatuan town in Maguindanao del Sur province and his driver.

At 6:30 a.m., Abdulkarim Hasim (alias Boy Jacket) was murdered. According to a statement issued on Sunday by Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., the incident occurred in Purok Yellow Bell, Barangay New Isabela, Tacurong City.

Hasim was identified as the primary perpetrator in the August 2022 assassination of Ampatuan police chief Lt. Reynaldo Samson and his driver, Cpl. Salipuden Endad, in Barangay Kapinpilan.

Azurin stated that Hasim was gunned down by security forces as he resisted arrest while a warrant of arrest for murder and double frustrated murder was being served.

The suspect was also linked to a series of harassments at the 40th Infantry Battalion, 601st Brigade patrol base in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan.

Azurin thanked the community for their assistance and cooperation in bringing the suspect to justice.

He also urged the public to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
