President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the invitation from United States President Joe Biden for the Summit for Democracy scheduled on December 9 and 10.
Duterte said in a statement that welcomes the opportunity to share the democratic experience in the Philippines and its commitment to democratic values.
Various heads of state and government as well as business and non-government sectors are invited to join the US summit that seeks to take action to further strengthen democracy.
Biden in his invitation to Duterte said the summit "will embark on the work necessary to shape a prosperous and peaceful future built on respect for the rights and aspirations of all people."
"We recognize and appreciate your partnership in working to build democratic and human rights-respecting societies that allow all citizens to thrive," Biden said in the invitation.
"In a moment of significant challenge and enormous opportunity, it is more important than ever for democracies to prove that we can deliver for the needs of our people," he continued.
