The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that the remains of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Kuwait, identified as Jenny Alvarado, arrived in the Philippines on Thursday evening.
In a Facebook post on Friday, the DMW confirmed that the remains arrived in Paranaque City. This follows the delivery of a different cadaver to the deceased's family on January 10.
"Her body was transported from Kuwait via Kuwait Airways flight KU 417," DMW said.
Furthermore, the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) stated that they will shoulder all expenses for the wake and burial of the Filipino OFW.
"The DMW and OWWA are providing all the necessary assistance to Alvarado’s family, including funeral services and other forms of support during this difficult time," it added.
OWWA further noted that the DMW extended initial financial support to Alvarado's family. This will include assistance for her three children, all of whom are minors.
The government is also actively coordinating with Kuwaiti authorities to investigate the deaths of the Filipina and her two foreign co-workers.
Based on the initial investigation from the Philippine Embassy, Alvarado died from coal suffocation after inhaling smoke from a heating system at her workplace.
Meanwhile, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac reported that the cadaver of the OFW's Nepali co-worker, which was mistakenly sent to Alvarado's family, have already been sent back to Kuwait.
