Re-elected 7th District Representative Crispin "Boying" Remulla on Tuesday appealed for a special elections to be held in Cavite as he is set to vacate his post to lead the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Remulla told DZRH in an interview that a special election is needed there so the people in his district would not be abandoned.
"Ang ipakikiusap ko ay magkaroon ng special elections para naman hindi ma-orphan o maulila ang aking mga kasama sa distrito," he said.
(I will request for special elections so the people in my district would not be orphaned.)
Remulla won after he ran unopposed as representative in Cavite's 7th District during the May 9 elections.
However, Remulla's re-election in the district will be over even before it begins after he accepted the offer of presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to lead the DOJ.
Earlier, Commission on Elections Commissioner George Garcia explained that Remulla's departure would create two scenarios, where a caretaker legislator from a nearby district will be designated or a special elections will be held after it is legislated.
According to Garcia, it will be up to Congress if it will decide to hold a special election in the district.
