The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will investigate the reported fake travel passes used in the human trafficking scheme, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin ‘Boying’ Remulla on Thursday said.
"We are already investigating that. We’re asking the NBI to investigate it," Remulla said during an ambush interview with the media.
He said they will use the report presented by Senator Risa Hontiveros in the Senate hearing as the basis of their investigation.
Last week, Hontiveros revealed that 12 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who were initially recruited as call center agents and encoders, were forced to work as cryptocurrency scammers in Myanmar.
The Senator described this as another “pastillas scam or bribery scheme'' as she questioned who in the Bureau of Immigration (BI) granted OFWs their visa and immigration papers.
During a Senate hearing on Tuesday, one of the OFW victims revealed that they were provided with fake official airport access stamps and did not pass through BI.
The Justice Chief assured to go after any Immigration official or personnel who will be found guilty.
“We will not spare anybody in the investigation even if it includes employees from the BI. Kahit sino pa yan,”
Meanwhile, BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval claimed that there may be possible connivance between a crime syndicate and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) personnels.
