The water level at Marikina River showed signs of improvement as it began to recede on Sunday morning which prompted authorities to announce the downgrading of the alarm level from second to first.
As of 7:30 a.m., the water level at Marikina River registered at 15.5 meters, indicating the activation of the First Alarm, according to the Marikina Public Information Office.
The recorded rainfall count upstream showed minimal precipitation:
- Mt. Campana: 0 mm
- Mt. Boso-Boso: 0 mm
- Mt. Aries: 0 mm
- Mt. Oro: 0 mm
- Nangka: 2 mm
Furthermore, all flood gates at Manggahan Floodway have been opened to aid in water discharge.
On Saturday night, Marikina River was placed under a second alarm as heavy rainfall caused its water level to breach the 16-meter mark.
In response to the rising water levels, residents in the vicinity were urged to evacuate for safety.
The Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) reported that the water level reached 16.5 meters as of 8:20 p.m., necessitating precautionary measures to protect lives and property.
