Senator Imee Marcos has filed a resolution seeking a Senate probe into the alleged fraudulent in the registration of voters for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) this October.

In Senate Resolution 592 dated May 4, Marcos cited that a video posted on Facebook on May 3 has shown that individuals purportedly attempted to register in the Commission on Election (Comelec) office in Makati City "even though they do not reside in the area."

She also cited that in Barangay Carmona in Makati City, the number of registered voters and registration applicants leaped to 8,415 from the 4,718 recorded in the 2022 National and Local Elections.

"The Chairman of Barangay Carmona, Joselito M. Salvador, attested that there was neither mass migration of new residents into the barangays nor an increase in the territory of the barangay. Thus, the sharp rise cannot be accounted for," Marcos said, adding that Salvador found that some of the registration applicants reside in Bulacan, Laguna, and Mindoro Occidental based on their identification cards (IDs).

According to the Senator, there is a chance that the alleged fraud registration may also be happening in other barangays nationwide.

"Given the persistent problems on flying voters and fraudulent voter registrations, there is an urgent need to revisit existing election laws, including, but not limited to, the Voter's Registration Act of 1996 and the relevant portions of the Omnibus Election Code, so that necessary changes may be made in order to decisively address these long-standing issues," Marcos said.
