Senatorial aspirant Luis "Manong Chavit" Singson expressed concern over the surging costs of basic goods, particularly vegetables.
Singson asked.
The price of tomatoes has reached ₱20 per piece, prompting Singson to call for immediate government intervention.
Singson attributed the price hike to inadequate support for farmers. To address this, he proposes:
1. Financial aid, subsidies and low-interest loans for farmers.
2. Additional training for farmers to increase rice production.
3. Improved agricultural logistics and public-private partnerships.
4. Direct government-farmer communication to eliminate middlemen overpricing.
5. Urban farming initiatives.
The Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Agriculture should closely monitor price fluctuations, Singson urged.
