Several Senators on Monday squashed the allegation that there had been an alleged plot to oust Senate President Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri from his post.
According to reports, Senators plotted to conduct the coup in July when the Senate resumed its regular session.
“Walang ganon na usapan na magkakaroon ng kudeta dito sa Senado. The members of the majority are fully supportive of Senate President Migz Zubiri,” Senator JV Ejercito told the media in an interview.
He also downplayed claims that he will be replacing Zubiri.
“Walang katotohanan iyon. Pati ako nagugulat na sa mga gano’ng klaseng tsismis,” Ejercito added.
Meanwhile, Senators Robinhood ‘Robin’ Padilla and Senator JV Ejercito expressed their trust in Zubiri’s leadership.
“Malaki ang bilib ko kay Senator Migz Zubiri,” Padilla said.
“Senators are very much satisfied with the leadership of Senate President Migz Zubiri,” Ejercito said, adding that Migz’s shoes are “too big to fill,” which was why no one attempted to wrest the Senate's leadership from him.
On the other hand, Senators Nancy Binay and Imee Marcos said these kinds of rumors should be stopped.
“Dapat di na natin ini-entertain ang ganyang mga intriga since di naman yan nakatulong sa Senado,” Binay remarked.
“No. Ang daming trabaho, tigilan na ang intriga!” Marcos said.
Furthermore, Senator Sonny Angara defended the Senate President, saying he is “well-liked” in Senate due to his “very professional and consultative manner.”
He also commended Zubiri’s team — Tempore Loren and Majority leader Senator Joel Villanueva.
Alleged coups also circulated in the House of Representatives last month. But Pampanga Representative and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo first denied alleged plans to remove House Speaker Martin Romualdez from his seat.
