A short-lived phreatic event was seen in Taal volcano's main crater on Wednesday, May 15, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
In an X post, the state seismologist said the short-lived phreatic event or steam-driven eruption occurred at 1:45 PM.
PHIVOLCS report said the event lasted for 5 minutes and "produced a 500 meter-tall steam plume that drifted west-northwest."
Meanwhile, Taal has been placed at Alert Level 1, which means that it is still in a state of unrest.
