About 12.9 million of Filipino families or 51 percent considered themselves poor in December, the last quarter of 2022, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released on Thursday.
The results of the SWS survey found that this figure is quite high as compared to the 12.6 million in October 2022.
Majority of the families who tagged themselves as poor came from Balance Luzon at 49 percent, followed by Metro Manila at 32 percent, Visayas at 58 percent, and Mindanao at 59 percent. 
Meanwhile, Filipino families who believe that they are borderline poor slightly increase to 31 percent in December 2022 from 29 percent in October 2022.
Pinoy families who regarded themselves as not poor, on the other hand, fell to 19 percent from 21 percent in the same period.
Food poor
The December SWS survey also found that 34 percent, equivalent to 8.9 million, families believe that they are food poor in both December 2022 and October 2022.
About 38 percent rated themselves as borderline food poor in December 2022 while only 28 percent of Filipino families regarded themselves as not food poor.
The survey was conducted from December 10 to 14, 2022. A total of 1,200 adults aged 18 years old and above were interviewed face-to-face.
