About 49 percent of Filipino adults believe that their quality of life will improve in the next 12 months, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) poll revealed on Monday.

The national survey, conducted from December 10 to 14, 2022, also found that 37 percent of Pinoys said their life will not change or will remain the same next year.

Only 5 percent believe that their life will worsen.

The SWS said the net personal optimism in December 2022 obtained +44 which is classified as excellent.

The net personal optimism was computed by subtracting those who said life will get better (optimists) and those who believe life will worsen (pessimists).

"The December 2022 Net Personal Optimism score was 4 points above the excellent +40 in October 2022 and the highest since the pre-pandemic score of excellent +44 in December 2019," it said.

The agency attributed the increase in December net personal optimism to the increase in Mindanao, Balance Luzon, and Visayas.

According to SWS, net personal optimism in Mindanao rose from +48 points (very high) to excellent (+50).

The net personal optimism stayed excellent in the following areas: Metro Manila with +49, Balance Luzon with +43, and Visayas with +39.

In the same survey, SWS discovered that net personal optimism is lower (+42) among individuals who rated themselves as mahirap or not poor.

SWS interviewed a total of 1,200 adults aged 18 years old and above for its December 2022 survey.

At least 300 individuals each from Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao participated.
