The Municipality of Taytay in Palawan has declared a State of Calamity in response to the surging Dengue fever cases within the province.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the number of recorded Dengue cases has reached a concerning number of 1,287 since January, with a tally of eighteen fatalities to date.

Taking action to address the health crisis, Mayor Christian Rodriguez issued Resolution No. 052-2023, officially declaring the entire municipality under a state health emergency due to the alarming spike in Dengue cases and related deaths.

Analyzing the data provided by the Municipal Health Office, it was revealed that out of the thirty-one barangays in Taytay, thirty reported multiple Dengue cases.

The situation is most critical in Barangay Poblacion, which has recorded a staggering 565 cases.

Other thirteen Dengue-related deaths have been documented across several barangays:

  • Barangay Poblacion: 8 fatalities
  • Barangay Liminangcong: 3 fatalities
  • Barangay Alacalian: 1 fatality
  • Barangay Debangan: 1 fatality

In light of the severity of the situation, the following measures have been implemented:

  • Public Awareness Campaign: The municipality will conduct a comprehensive public awareness campaign to educate residents about Dengue fever, its symptoms, preventive measures, and the crucial importance of seeking immediate medical attention.
  • Intensified Vector Control: A stringent mosquito eradication program will be carried out, involving regular fumigation and clearing of potential mosquito breeding sites to curb the spread of the disease.
  • Mobilization of Resources: All available resources, including human resources, medical supplies, and equipment, will be mobilized to effectively address the health emergency.
  • Financial Allocation: The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund will be utilized to allocate necessary funds in support of the implementation of emergency measures.
