Top 12 finalists presented their advocacies at the Queens for a Cause competition leg

The third leg of competitions has uncovered the inner hearts of the Top 12 candidates after they revealed their advocacies at the Queens for a Cause competition leg, on September 25, Saturday.

Queens for a Cause is an addition to this year’s competition legs. The candidates presented their respective advocacies through their choice of community program or charity. Each candidate was given some minutes to speak about the organization, its objectives, target beneficiaries, what she has contributed to it. The Top 12 finalists’ presentations were also moderated by DZRH News anchor, Ms. Karen Ow-yong.

Angelie Gabrielle Estrada of Puerto Princesa City supported the ‘Gulayan ni Minan,’ a project of Life Care Community Services Foundation, Inc. that serves the children from the Tagbanua Tribe in Sitio Bubusawin in Barangay Apurawan. The vegetable garden project aims to provide another source of food and nutrition to the community especially to malnourished children.

Coleen Beatrix Alcarde of Iloilo City is one of the members of iLead Trainings. Founded in 2009, the youth-oriented organization believes that impact leadership knows no age. They think that every child deserves an education, a bright future, and opportunity.

The pride of Zamboanga City, Sharmaine dela Cruz, presented ‘Ayuda Badjao’ that aims to give school supplies to the Badjao community children in her city. Sharmaine believes that education is both power and treasure. More than that, it seeks to preserve the indigenous people and grow their community through education.

Keith Arboleda from Echague, Isabela backed the Yogad community in her town through community pantries. Keith also volunteered in the outreach program of the municipality towards indigent children through a book drive, distribution of school supplies, and giving them food items.

From Malay, Aklan, Shealtiel Kyze Cahilig introduced ‘Basura Baylo Bugas’ by Aklan Trekkers, a group of environmental advocates. They promote sustainable community tourism and eradication of plastic pollution by tasking people in communities to gather plastic wastes and encapsulate them in plastic containers. In return, the organization gives them food supplies.

Jayvee Lyn Lorejo from Mawab, Davao de Oro, backed the LGBTQIA+ community in her town. The advocacy shall materialize through digital technology and social media. Jayvee wanted the LGBTQIA+ community to live in a place that is safe, accepted, and respected.

The candidate from San Manuel Isabela, Vjie Matias, supported ‘Isabelaban’ that intends to help people in her town through tree planting project, cleaning drive, volunteer teaching, school supplies distribution, and feeding program. The province of Isabela has been grievously affected by the pandemic and Typhoon Ulysses in November 2020.

Shanyl Kayle Hofer of Minglanilla, Cebu aimed to support the Cebu Market Vendors Multi-Purpose Cooperative, a group of vendors at the Carbon Market in the municipality. It seeks to help owners of micro, small and medium businesses which were affected by lockdown policies of the government amid the pandemic.

From Iligan City, Jeramie Mingo presented her advocacy on teaching and the appreciation of the presence of the Badjao community in the city. She described the indigenous peoples as respectful, joyful, humble, hospitable, and with a high sense of gratitude.

The candidate from Pangasinan province, Chynna Kaye Verosil is a proud member of ‘Go Bikers’ which enables the youth to become emergency responders. They roam around communities to provide basic health care services such as checking of blood pressure and blood sugar levels of residents. They want to save lives, one ride at a time.

Cherry May Regalado of Kalibo, Aklan demonstrated her advocacy on ‘Hueag Akean’ that aims to train and prepare the youth to become future varsity players for ‘Pencak Silat’ and compete locally and internationally. Cherry May’s purpose is to create another Cherry Mae.

From Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, Krysti Ann Villarias, took advantage of her hobby of working out for a good cause. Motivated to help and inspire from the cerebral palsy condition of her cousins, she volunteered in an organization for differently-abled persons in her municipality. They want to eradicate negative stereotypes towards differently-abled persons.

Indeed, the ladies are not just pure beauty and brains, but they also have the heart for others. This will be affirmed by the corresponding amounts to be given to the first three winners and to their chosen charitable program in their respective municipalities.

The next competition leg the Evening Gown Competition and Q&A and the Awarding and Coronation Night will be aired over DZRH TV, and all social media platforms of MBC: DZRH News, Love Radio, Yes The Best, Easy Rock, Aksyon Radyo, and Radyo Natin.
