The former US president Donald Trump donned an apron on Sunday and manned the fry station at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s, even making an appearance before a crowd at the drive-through window and serving guests there. The stint, which he spoke of publicly a day prior, was done “so that one candidate in this race could have actually worked at McDonald’s,” a Trump aide told reporters.
Trump was recorded manning the fry station, happily greeting drive-through customers, and giving them free food he said he’d made himself.
The billionaire real-estate agent and former leader had taken a basket of fries from boiling oil, salted them, and scooped them into packets—taking all of five minutes, according to reports. He then spent 15 at the drive-through, through most of which he answered reporters’ queries.
Moreover, the fast food restaurant was closed for the event, and the “customers” were selected by the US Secret Service.
Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris was a McDonald’s fry attendant during the summer following her freshman year at Howard University in Alameda, California, in 1983. She was also a cashier and operated the ice cream machine.
Trump, whose penchant for fast food is well known, has accused Harris of cooking the story up. He also previously claimed former president Barack Obama was not born in the US.
Harris has paid no heed to Trump’s assertions, but her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has spoken up.
“Can you simply picture Donald Trump working at a McDonald’s? He couldn’t run that damn McFlurry machine if it cost him anything,” he said.
Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, comparing Harris and Trump, has stated, “One candidate worked at McDonald’s … (while) the other was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.”
