A female student had been sexually assaulted inside the campus of University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) on Saturday, July 1.
According to a statement released by the UPD Chancellor, the UPD Police (UPDP) received a report at around 11 p.m. on Saturday that a student had been “sexually assaulted” by an unidentified individual along Ylanan Street.
“The UPD administration has been working with police authorities for the immediate apprehension of the suspect and closely coordinating with the survivor to provide all necessary assistance,” the statement read.
“Everyone is reminded to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious to the UPDP,” it added, noting that additional roving security personnel and officers would be deployed in different areas after office hours.

Meanwhile, Commission on Higher Eductation (CHED) asserted that the incident is a “wake-up call” for the institution to re-examine its policies on security and safety, including its coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies.
“This despicable criminal act is a wake-up call for the University of the Philippines to review and rationalize its security and safety policies, including its operational engagement with the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies in order to make the UP Community safe and secure,” CHED chairman Prospero de Vera III noted.
