The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) once again placed the Visayas Grid on yellow alert on Friday, May 17.
In its latest advisory, the NGCP said the yellow alert will take effect from 3:00 PM–4:00 PM and 6:00 PM–9:00 PM.
Visayas Grid's available capacity is 2,883 megawatts, with a peak demand of 2,568 megawatts
One plant has been on forced outage since 2022, two since 2023, and two between January and March 2024.
Thirteen power plants will be built between April and May 2024.
Meanwhile, six are running on derated capacities, for a total of 515.1 MW unavailable to the grid.
The Visayas grid was also put on yellow alert yesterday.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
The Department of Energy said in April that the current situation with electricity has reached crisis proportions.
