Vice President Sara Duterte was not present during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 22.
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) stated that Duterte would not be watching the SONA on TV or any other devices.
"She is currently in Bohol to offer her condolences to the Boholanos following the death of their Vice Governor and to boost the spirits of the people affected by the suspension of their duly-elected local officials," the OVP said in a statement.
Duterte later shared photos of herself at the wake and spoke with some local officials.
The Vice President had previously announced that she would not attend the SONA and had designated herself as the "designated survivor," an American political concept ensuring the presidential line of succession.
Marcos and Sara Duterte known as "Uniteam" achieved a decisive victory together in the 2022 presidential and vice-presidential elections.
On June 19, Duterte decided to step down from her role as education secretary in the Marcos Cabinet.
The Vice President faced criticism from First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos for allegedly laughing at a public joke made by her father, which implied that the President was "bangag" or under the influence of drugs.
