Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte’s now-viral video clip is authentic and is not a result of Artificial Intelligence (AI) nor is it deepfake, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed on Sunday, November 24.
In a report by RH 5 Val Gonzales, he said that the NBI verified the video’s authenticity. Per the directive of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, NBI Director Judge Jaime Santiago said that they had begun an investigation on the matter. In coordination with the Presidential Security Command, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla also instructed the NBI to determine the video’s veracity.
“The NBI Cybercrime investigators have found the video clip to be authentic. Hindi po ito deepfake or AI Generated. The findings was already reported to the Secretary of Justice,” the NBI said.
Moreover, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief PBGen. Nicolas Torre III assured that they are already in the process of identifying the person which the VP instructed to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Arante-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Investigation on the matter is still ongoing, the NBI said.
The now-viral video showed the VP saying that she had instructed someone to kill the President, the First Lady, and the House Speaker, in case she gets killed first.
“Kapag namatay ako, sabi ko huwag ka tumigil hanggang hindi mo mapatay sila. And then he said yes,” VP Duterte told the media in a media briefing on Saturday.
The press briefing by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) began past midnight on Saturday via Zoom, after the House of Representatives issued a standing order to OVP Chief-of-Staff Zuleika Lopez, ordering her to be transferred to the Women's Correctional Facility in Mandaluyong City.
However, Duterte took over the briefing after Lopez suffered an anxiety attack, and was rushed to the hospital.
